Greetings, Hello, Salutations, and To Whom it May Concern:
My name is Brianne and I’m currently between jobs (sounds so much better than unemployed). Most recently I worked for Flying Dog Brewery, Colorado’s second largest craft brewery, for about 4 years. Due to events beyond my control, my manager Neal Stewart was forced to lay me off. This isn’t a first for me, in fact, this is the 3rd time I’ve been laid off. Allow me to take you on a quick trip in employment history…
1979 – 1997 Born and raised in Edgemont, SD Employed as little sister to Sean Covel. Salary: $10 a month. Not including the Little Sister Tax which took up most of my income.
1995 – 1997 Edgemont Herald Tribune Employed as photographer, editor, ad sales, layout designer, journalist, and receptionist for Edgemont’s largest news circulation. Salary: enough to buy a case of Keystone light.
1997 – 1999 Colorado Institute of Art Employed as student to Apparel Marketing program. At same time employed as friend of Aimee Geurts, Jack Daniels, and Jose Cuervo. Salary: enough to call parents for more money.
1998 – 1999 Color Profiles Inc. / The Total Look Employed as assistant to personal shoppers, retail manager, and personal assistant to Debra Lindquist (this was particularly riveting, as she allowed me to watch Days of our Lives while I put together her client color profiles). Salary: enough to buy gas to allow me to run errands for Ms. Lindquist.
1998 – 2000 CSS Trading Co., Inc Employed as Director of Marketing and Purchasing (Quite the ego blowing title as this was my first job out of college. Never mind that the company consisted of about 15 people). Salary: enough to turn 21 and blow all of my savings at bars.
2000 – 2003 Abacuss Apparel Group Employed as Director of Business Development (was very successful in this position. Started company with zero clients, left company with more than zero clients). Salary: hahahahahahahahahaha
- Lay-off #1
2003 – 2004 Ouray Sportswear / SCI Employed as Purchasing Manager ( I made no friends here) Salary: very nice.
- Lay-off #2
2004 – 2008 Flying Dog Brewery Employed as Brand Coordinator (THE most fun job I’ve ever had) Salary: enough to start paying back debt incurred from Lay-off #2
- Lay-off #3
Present Self Employed Employed as Job Hunter Salary: severance from Flying Dog lay-off
Other various jobs that I usually exclude from my resume:
- MiMi Maternity – retail associate with no experience being pregnant
- The Container Store – retail associate not willing to embrace the “Group Huddle” method of shift briefing
- Foley’s Department Store – retail associate in “Missy” department. (Missy is the department that older women shop at to appear younger)
In this blog I will take you, my reader, with me on my job hunt. I’ll let you know what jobs I’m applying for, my experience in applying and interviewing, and of course, the infamous rejection letters.
Please feel free to interact with me if you are having similar experiences or if you want to hire me. Because we all know…
“I am confident that you will be pleased with the professionalism and expertise that I can bring to the table for insert company name here.”
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Brianne Covel

Hey…
Being jobless sucks. On my 5th month now. Have an interview on Thursday, but I’m positive that it’s low wage slave sort of job. Kind of depressing.
Hi,
My name is Ashley and I actually have an interview tomorrow with Ms.Lindquist to be her assistant. Do you think you could give me some more information about your time working for her, ie, pay, hours, etc.? My email is apowell@monm.edu. Thanks so much!
